Kevin Durant Signs Extension with Thunder

In the wake of all the free agent craziness of the last few days, the Oklahoma City Thunder quietly signed MVP-in-the-making Kevin Durant to a 5 year, $80 million contract extension. Durant didn't even ask for an opt out in his contract (which is what has allowed Lebron, Wade, and Bosh to become free agents this year). This is a HUGE deal for the Thunder. As a team that is quickly on the rise and still has a little bit of cap space, Oklahoma needed to have Durant under a long term contract before they could really start making moves to improve their roster. With that done, they've got an incredibly bright future ahead of them. Durant, meanwhile, handled this entire thing with class and efficiency, announcing the signing of his deal with a simple Twitter message. This is quite a refreshing thing for this writer, as the idea of the hour long "Where Will Lebron Go?" special that is on tap for tomorrow makes me want to vomit on a puppy. Great deal all around and congratulations to Durant for doing this the right way.
