In the dumbest deal of the day, the Toronto Raptors have secured the services of forward Amir Johnson (number 55 on the Big Board) with a staggering 5 year, $34 million deal. How bad is this signing, you ask? When I saw the $34 mil figure I thought to myself, this would have to be a 10 year deal to make that amount of money make sense. Amir Johnson has a little bit of talent (I think). But during last year's "career year" (his fifth in the league), he averaged 6 points and 4 rebounds per game. He can't shoot, doesn't play defense, and isn't a scorer. In essence, he's a talented 10th or 12th man on a roster. Even a bad team like the Raptors were last year couldn't find more than 17 minutes a game for him. Those who use advance statistics will tell you this is a good signing, that Johnson has only shown a percentage of what he's capable of. Those people are wrong. Averaging this kids stats out to 36 minutes per game is ridiculous and even if he did get 36 a game and averaged 12 points, 8 rebounds, and a block, he'd STILL be way overpaid. He will now be paid $13307 per point he scored last year. This is beyond a bad signing, this is an AWFUL signing. I seriously doubt if Johnson would have gotten half that amount from anyone else. Crap like this is the reason Chris Bosh is RUNNING to get out of Toronto. Absolutely terrible.
