In order to clean out room for their Super Douche Bag Team, the Miami Heat sent former number two pick in the draft Michael Beasley to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for a future second round pick. Beasley is perhaps the league's biggest pariah/enigma. He is both uber-talented and uber-immature, has had a couple of run-ins with the law, and spent some time in rehab last year. He doesn't seem to care much but when he does, he looks like he could be a superstar. Yet, in a league chock full of talented-but-troubled players, no one seems to want to take a chance on a guy who was considered a can't-miss prospect two short years ago. That's weird for a young player of his talent to lose interest across the league so quickly. The Heat have been trying to give him away for two months with no takers. Finally they find a buyer in Minnesota but they got nothing in return.
Look, it's hard to say Miami made the wrong choice in selling Beasley away for nothing. Obviously acquiring Lebron James and Chris Bosh to add to Dwyane Wade is a no-brainer. Still, they're getting nothing for Beasley and that's rough considering where he was drafted. On the flip side, Beasley doesn't really fit with Minnesota's already jam-packed with forwards. But, he's an incredible talent and they're getting him for nothing. Chances are Al Jefferson and maybe another player or two will be moved before the season begins and Beasley will get a chance to show his talent for a team that doesn't need him to help them win games as much as it just needs him to improve and refine his skills. This is a great second chance for Beasley, but will he be able to make the most of it?
