Bobcats Commit to Tyrus Thomas

The Charlotte Bobcats have come to terms with Tyrus Thomas (number 17 on the Big Board) on a 5 year, $40 million contract. Thomas, who was acquired for next to nothing from Chicago at mid-season, received great attention from New Jersey but ultimately decided to stay with the team that revived his career. Thomas is loaded with potential but has never quite put it altogether. His short run with Charlotte last year, however, brought the best out of the super athletic power forward, and he apparently loves playing for Larry Brown. This is an overpayment for a guy who at best averages 12 points and 7 rebounds a game. But, there's something to be said for paying a guy who fits well with your team and who has chemistry in the locker room. The problem with Thomas has always been his work ethic and maturity. If he's with a coach he really respects and playing a role that he can embrace, then it stands to reason that his actual ability could catch up to his potential, making this a really good contract.
